Where can I put a dumpster?
The best place for a dumpster is your own driveway: private property, no permit in most cases, and a hard surface. Driveway or street?
Driveway, whenever it fits. A box on your driveway or yard sits on private property, which usually means no permit, no traffic in the way of loading, and no one else's car parked against it. A box in the street or on the sidewalk sits in the public right-of-way, which in most cities and counties needs a permit and comes with rules about where and how long. How much room does the truck need?
More than the box itself, and mostly in front of it. The truck backs in, tilts its bed and slides the container off, so the container's spot is at the end of a straight run.

What about pavers, a soft driveway or grass?
A loaded box is heavy and its weight rides on two steel rails. On concrete, that is fine. On pavers, a soft asphalt driveway or a lawn, two sheets of plywood under the rails spread the load and are cheap insurance; Javi's asks for them on pavers and soft ground. The rental terms are plain that Javi's is not responsible for driveway or yard damage from loading and unloading, so the plywood is your call and worth making. If the only spot is grass, expect ruts after rain and place the plywood before the truck arrives.
Which size fits where?
All five boxes are 8 feet wide. The 10 yard is 13 feet long and fits a single-car driveway with room to walk around. The 15 is 15 feet long. The 20 and 30 are 16 feet long, which fits a standard two-car driveway with a car still beside it; the difference between them is a foot of height. The 40 is roughly 22 feet long and 8 feet tall, a box that is more common on job sites and in parking lots than in front of a house. Measure the driveway from the garage door to the sidewalk before you pick, and remember the straight run in front for the truck.
What do HOAs and gated communities say?
Many Central Florida communities, especially in Kissimmee, Poinciana, Davenport, Lake Mary and Horizon West, have association rules about containers: how long one may stay, that it stays on the driveway, sometimes that the office is notified first. Those rules apply on your own property and the association can fine you. Read them or call the office before booking. In a gated community, give the gate code when you order so the driver is not stuck at the entrance, and check that the truck can turn in at the gate with a container on the bed.
How do I prepare the spot?
The evening before delivery, do five things; on a same-day order the same list happens in the hour before the truck arrives.
- Move the cars out of the driveway and off the street in front of it
- Look up: trim or note any branches under about 22 feet, and check for wires and carport roofs
- Lay plywood where the rails will land if the surface is pavers, soft asphalt or grass
- Leave a placement note when you order, or a chalk mark on the driveway, so the driver puts it where you want without a call
- Keep the same spot clear on pickup day; the truck needs the same straight run to winch the box back on
What if it will not fit?

Can a dumpster be placed on the street?
Only with the right-of-way permit your city or county requires, and subject to their rules. The driveway avoids all of that and is where most Javi's boxes go.
Will the dumpster damage my driveway?
It can on pavers or soft surfaces, and the terms make driveway damage the customer's responsibility. Plywood under the rails spreads the load; on concrete it is rarely an issue.
